character:→ Stephan was born in 1906 and is originally from East Prussia (according to the novels)

→ his parents are both Deaf, so he can use sign language and read lips quite proficiently
→ he rigged a light-"doorbell" for his parents in the apartment, evidencing that he's technologically practical
→ he carries a reddish notebook and nearly constantly takes notes on what he observes
